Motorola cancels the RAZR3... Christmas next
Okay, I just made that last part, although if you're a Motorola employee that might be true with their layoffs and all but the main point is Motorola has decided to cancel research and production on the third generation of RAZR phones, code named Ruby, before it is even brought to market.
Samsung #1 in America, iPhone #2 in the world
It looks like there's a new cell phone king in America, and a new first runner up in the international cell phone market.
Samsung has finally overtaken Motorola, as the number one cell phone supplier domestically, taking 22.4% of the American market share. Motorola, which had been milking the slow death of the Motorola RAZR for years fell to 21.1; a swan dive from their 32.7% share of the market a year ago.
Motorola forbids the AURA from being resold
You'd think they'd be happy with anyone showing the slightest bit of interest in their cell phones again... but noooo Motorola would rather focus on destroying the single thread of goodwill the company has left.
Motorola 3000: not new phone model, number of people laid off
On the heels of a $397 million 3rd Quarter loss; Motorola has announced they're laying off 3,000 people; growing the tally of layoffs for the company 13,000 since January 2007. They also decided to delay spining off Motorola's toxic cell phone unit until past 2009. The split had previously been targeted for the 3rd Quarter of 2009.
The upside? Well that means 53,000 Motorola employees worldwide will still be keeping their jobs... at least for now.
Android News: Motorola not to make any until Christmas 09
In a concession to the reality that, well they suck, new Motorola president Sanjay Jha says that the earliest we'll see a Motorola phone running on the Android OS is Christmas. And that's Christmas 2009 that he means:
The Motorola AURA is cheap... if you're an Arabian Shiek
I think the logic is if no one is buying your cell phones anyway, if they cost $200 or $2,000 - it doesn't really make a difference,
MOTO Q 11 - OMG Motorola still makes phones?
Considering Motorola can't even get press about how bad they're doing anymore; I'm kind of amazed that they're still bothering to roll out new handsets, but just for the sake of nostalgia, let's all pretend it's 1995 and new cell phones from Motorola are still relevant.
The Moto Q 11 comes out sometime in December, and much like the Moto Q 9 (there was no 10) it's a thin phone that apes the look of the once popular RAZR.
