Britney Spears isn’t the only one simplifying things.

Aside from bald Britney, investment bank Piper Jaffray & Co. found that teens are also streamlining their look; as a new survey shows that nearly two-thirds never wear a watch, with only roughly 1 in 10 wearing one every day. A second study Experian Simmons Research found Americans spent around $5.9 billion on watches in 2006, a figure down 17 percent from five years ago.

Behind the trend, and I admit I’m as guilty of this as anyone, is with cell phones, PDAs, and iPods already able to tell time and with us 24/7, the wrist watch has become completely redundant.

Ironically while this trend is being driven by new technology, it also represents coming full circle, as originally time pieces were devices kept in your pocket.
