Verizon wants to raise text message rates by 3 cents

Not for Verizon customers, but in a way that's even more offensive.

The text hike is actually just for companies that send out SMS messages for stuff like sports scores and  bank statements... i.e. notification services and social networks. Currently they pay nothing per message but Verizon Wireless was planning on raising that to 3 cents per texts sent on November 1, though because of the negative press they're backing off that date.

What people are finding so shameful is not only is Verizon trying to just double dip in fees, they're trying to triple dip. These content aggregaters already have separate financial arrangements with Verizon, not to mention the bloated 20 cents per text Verizon charges it's users for every SMS they receive; meaning Verizon would be making about 25 cents on every text message... which costs them less than a cent to send.

It's just plain greedy
