i got my brothers old LG cu500. He dropped it once when he had it and then the camera didn't always work and now it won't work at all. is there any way i can fix it? and also if i close the phone to fast it will automaticly shut off. why does it do this?

Solved my own problem.

The files have to be in mp3 format to show up on the music player. I was copying MPEG-4 (= AAC) files from iTunes. I changed my iTunes settings and converted files to mp3. When I copied those over, they showed up in the music player.

Ok. Music files not showing up in music player.

1) Had no problem with transferring files to disk.
2) USB was already set as mass storage, so that trick (#66)with plugging in the numbers and choosing port then mass storage did not work.
3) Shuffle (#67) does not work. All it does is play that one irritating LG sample music clip "Life is good...". Have tried numerous times, both from music symbol key and through the menu.
4) Tried powering phone off/on, removed SanDisk (had to use tweezers) and replaced it, etc. Still my music files will not show up in music player even though they are on the memory card via "My stuff".

my issue is that I have had my LGCU500 and a 1GB sandisk since Feb. and didn't have a lick of problems. Then in the past couple months I noticed some of the songs wouldn't be there (and some pics) that I had on the card. I would turn off the phone and turn it back on, and it would magically reappear. Last night I noticed all songs gone but the ones that I didn't have on the card and most of my photos. So I turned off the phone. It didn't work. I pulled out the card-nothing. I don't even have the option to send a song to a card! Instead of 3 options (handset, bluetooth and memory card) it only gives me two choices (handset and bluetooth). I tried switching out with my husband's phone to see what the problem was..and at first HIS phone got messed up, then it finally fixed itself. Mine is still not doing right. I tried sending a song to my phone via the sites I am a member too-and my phone just "reboots" itself back to the screen like you are turning on the phone...what gives??????? I am getting very frustrated. HELP!!!

Ok, I have a cu500 and have tried numerous tricks listed ... 277634#*#->4->4, and then tried to view the memory card, occasionally I get the 1/0 byte chart, but most times I get the "card not ready". Also tried the shuffle with one song(mp3) on the card and nothing.

This card worked for many months out of the box. Patriot 1Gb.

Question:
1. Originally the card; before it puked with random data, had some folders on them ( not sure how they got there ). Do these folders have to exist?
2. Are there any characters in the mp3 filename that the phone will not recognize? i.e. spaces, underscores, dashes, special characters.

after your computer should reconized it as a mass storage device in my computer amd usally it will be drive f:. then click and drag.

I tried getting the firmware update for the cu500 ota, that didn't work. Called att, she couldn't send it to my phone but suggested I call lg. They told me there is no software for the cu500 since the cu500v is out. Does anyone know of an alternate method of getting the firmware?

Does anyone know about the new firmware that was released at the same time as the 500v? One of the sales reps at my cingular (ATT) store flashed his 500 to 500v firmware OTA from LG's site, but we can no longer find the file/link.

This firmware flash basically converts all the cingular branded programs into their ATT counterparts, adds 2gb microSD compatablity, enables Video Sharing (although the service has yet to be launched everywhere except around San Antonio, TX), and a host of other tweeks (battery useage, etc...)

I would love to even hear a rumor about this since there is apparently very little out on the net about this. And to those who claim that it doesnt exist, I have personnaly seen it (cu500v firmware on the cu500, pushed there OTA).

This is what I did to make my pc recognize the phone as a USB mass storage device.

From the main screen, input

then

scroll down to 4 Port Setting (can't just enter "4", have to move the selection down)

select 4 Mass Storage

Another question. I brought the CU500 into South America and tried to use it with my local GSM SIM card and it says invalid card. Does anyone know how to program the SIM area?

Two Gigabyte Expansion Card Issue

Despite documentation, which claims the Samsung ZX20 and LG CU500 are able to accept this size card, it is incorrect.

The Samsung ZX20 and LG CU500 will accept MicroSD card sizes up to 1gigabyte in size. The 2gigabyte size is incompatible at the current time.

Please advise any customers who may call with these cards/handsets to return them to their Point of Purchase.

i tried a long time to get this to work, and in the end i ended up having to buy a new one. So i just suggest you do the same. You can go to amazon and get them for 7 dollars that work perfect.

I too was having trouble with the mass storage. Tried everything (in phone clear/format etc...). The card worked in the PC but not the phone.

Tried another card (sandisk rather than no brand) and it has been working fine ever since.

It seems not all brands of microSD card are compatible with this phone.

Rick-This might be too late, but: I was having the same problem. I tried connecting the phone to a different computer and it worked fine. (Very similar computers--go figure!) If you or anyone else has figured out why some computers give that "Insert Disk _" message, please share it with the rest of us. Thanks.

As of May 15 Cingular has the LG CU500v. The revised CU500v does not have the memory card problems. It can use any brand and upto 2G.

I recently got a CU500. I got a 1gb sandisk micro SD/transflash memory card, and the USB cable for the phone. When I try the 277634#*# nothing happens and the card is still not ready. Also, how do I get my computer to recognize the phone? Is there a website where I can get the drivers or something?

Got it! There was one more chore I had to do. Even though the phone was not 'seeing' the card, it did install 4 file folders into which I moved the MP3 and photos. Then I did the 277 deal, rebooted, shuffled and there it all was. Sure seems like a pain, but as someone else said, at least it works.

I have tried all of the various methods listed in these posts and I still just get 'Card Not Ready' when I attempt to access it for the memory check on the phone. It works fine in the adaptor in the computer.

this phone is splendid in everything except the memory card department. It drives you nuts! You sometimes wonder how these big companies release such buggy products in the market.
I had some success using the "shuffle" method but it is not very reliable always.

I just got my LG CU500 and I LOVE it! The only problem is that I have itunes, and they are all m4p files. I insterted my memory card into my computer and transferred them to the card without problem, but when it is in my phone all of the files go directly to "other files-Memory card" and will not play on the music player. They play as individual files, but I would really like to have them on the true player. I guess I need to know how I can convert my mp4 files to mp3 ??????????

Tyler the files have to be in mp3, aac, or wma format. If your songs were ripped to m4a protectred files then you have to re-copy them all, if they are mp3 then just drag and drop.

I have the LG CU500 to replace my Razr. I love the phone but have a question. I have all my songs on iTunes. I have a dell and a mac. But I want to put them on my phone, but it doesn't support iTunes. How do I transfer my iTunes songs to my phone? Do I have to use Windows Media player? If so, how do I get my songs from iTunes to Windows Media player? PLEASE E-Mail me back A.S.A.P.!!!!!!!!

SanDisk 1gb Issue: Nothing worked, except doing #66 and #67 above. Then, making sure that I opened the phone and choose the player through the menus and choosing #3 to shuffle the songs. I was doing it from the front of the phone and the Reshuffle there did nothing. I'm transfering files via a USB cable directly to the SanDisk in the phone. Works great now.

On Cu-500 LG to activate MicroCD card, enter 277634#*# which takes you to phone test mode, go to port setting, scroll to mass storage remove, click ok and you will hear chime and see message flash about USB something-something. No need to remove microSD. Go to Setting and Check memory and you will see the storage capacity of card. kerndog

I got the phone to recognize my card for my music and my photos. Only thing, everytime I remove the card to my computer when I put it back in the phone I have to go through the whole process again to recognized the card. This also happens if I just turn the phone off and back on. I have to do the 277634#*# go to (4) port settings then to (4) mass storage click ok, reboot the phone, select music player and shuffle. Then it works again. I have tried to just reshuffle but have had no success with that without doing the whole process over. What a pain in the butt! But at least it works anyway.

i just got a cu500 in feburary and i already dropped and the external screen cracked is there any way to replace this screen.

Just to be clear...you don't have to have a USB cable to transfer music to the SD
card...you can just fill the card up on your PC using a card reader and then place the card into the phone?

The Cingular animated startup and shutdown logos can be removed on the CU500/TU500 by deleting:

/LGAPP/Media/Pafs/cingular_PowerOn.paf
/LGAPP/Media/Pafs/cingular_SubPower.paf
/LGAPP/Media/Pafs/cingular_PowerOff.paf
/LGAPP/Media/Pafs/cingular_SubPowerOff.paf

A static Cingular logo is still dispayed, haven't figured how to get rid of it yet.

Just found a tip to get Vibrate Only for the CU500. Just press the * key until it vibrates. Don't know why they didn't include Vibrate Only as a setting.

I had some success with the kingston 1 gb chip...

I added songs onto it through an adapter, and then inserted it into my phone.
I tried the port settings stuff and all that, but nothing really came through until i started telling it to shuffle my music. I kept messing with the shuffle settings and eventually it recognized my music and the card.
Every now and then it stops recognizing the chip, but if i tell it to shuffle songs it will start working again. Only downside is that if I want to add any music, i have to take the chip out and use an adapter. When I turn the port setting to mass storage, it stops recognizing the card.

thanks for the factory settings code, it will come in handy, however you can go to menu/settings/connection/usb connection mode to turn mass storage mode on and off (in case you don't want to memorize the code.

also when using the code you can change your modem settings/network mode and turn off 3g by choosing 2g only (it wastes battery constantly seeking a connection)

you can goto bitpim.org and dl their prog to delete the cingular logo photos.....if you can figure out which ones they are....let me know. I think they are I'm afraid ill fudge it on the permanent.... not my fault if your phone glitches out.
i think they are paf files, as I read the .bin files are for the interface.

using bitpim you can also change those annoying sounds it makes when deleting or moving files.
the two files are:
/LGAPP/Media/Midis/EffectSnd/Pop Up.acc
" "/Success.aac\

simply deleting them won't work, you will have to replace the files with other sounds(or silence in a sound file) and convert them into the aac format (the only free prog i know of is nch switch....google it for a free trial) rename your files after the originals and no more annoying sounds!!!!

I will also reiterate that 2gb sdmicro cards will not work, only 1gb or less.......and HAVE FUN TRYING TO TAKE IT OUT!!!!

i bought a usb cable for like $5 on ebay, made by mobile action, and my computer wouldn't recognize my sd card until i installed the driver for the usb cable......so if you have tried everything and still can't get it to work, see if this link helps you out, or contact whoever you got your cable from if you didn't shell out the $40+ to buy the usb cable from cingular.

we shouldn't have to shuffle and pray every time we power off the phone!
also I can't tranfer pics to my card? I loose them when I try....
guess I should have stuck with SONY..they worked flawlessly EVERY time...and never having to try numerous stupid shortcuts to get the card to read... my usb cord doesn't work either..seems as though LG released the phone before any REAL world testing...guess I am stuck with it for two years..... well at least the phone works most of the time...

in order to get the music from my computer to my LG CU500 do i need a usb cable and a San disk or will just the sandisk do?

me again... i bought a 1 gig micro card. placed it in the card adaptor. loaded mp3's on my computer. put it in the phone, no luck. then i tried the fix in # 66, and # 67 above one after the other without formatting or anything and i got my music. i was depressed reading about formatting and all the other stuff, but i punched in thoes numbers in message 66, chose the settings, turned off my phone, removed the micro, put in the micro, turned on my phone, chose shuffle, and it played. hope this helpes everyone
