Sony Ericsson W960 music phone tries to match iPhone

w960.jpgWhile the just announced Sony Ericsson W960 will be lagging behind the apple iPhone in several respects, name recognition certainly comes to mind, it does equal it in on board storage; coming with an amazing 8GB of memory. That means you can store about 700 albums of music at once… great news if you actually have 700 albums of music.

Also music augmenting is Bluetooth with A2DP stereo headset support and TrackID, a new feature that records a snippet of a song in earshot and identifies what it is and who it’s by, online.

Additional goodies include a touchable interface with stylus, a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera, Video capture/playback abilities, speakerphone, and FM stereo on a Symbian Operating system. Connectivity is through GPRS,EDGE, WCDMA, and in first for the Sony Walkman phones, WiFi.

The Sony Ericsson W960 will be available starting in Europe in the fourth quarter.

SEloyalist blog has reviewed the W960 and here's their take:
"The W960 is really the best SE phone I've ever used. The UIQ interface here is much enhanced and I had no difficulty in navigating through the various menus. And as I pointed out before, the flush touchscreen is a big plus over previous phones as it enables you to use your finger more often. There are still a few places which necessitate the use of the stylus but it is a big step up from previous UIQ 3 smartphones. The lack of EDGE or HSDPA is what that restrains the W960 on the connectivity front. The Call quality is excellent and the music part is of course brilliant.
All these features in a thin 16mm form factor is what that makes the W960 a phone to crave for!"
