Shazam: Discover New Music Using Your Cellphone

Shazamenables UK users to discover music using their mobile phone. If you happen to be in the UK, give it a try: hear something you love when you're out visiting the queen of England? Shazam will help you track it with your mobile and get the info straight back as a text message.
Each time you call 2580 from your mobile phone and point your mobile at the source. Shazam attempts to match the sample of the tune against its ever-growing database of nearly 4 million tracks. Shazam then hangs-up automatically after 20 seconds, enables its recognizing technology and will help you find this song, as long as it's in the database. If the tune you tag cannot be recognised, there's no charge except your network operator standard call charges. Each successful tag costs £0.50, including VAT. In addition, you can subscribe to Shazam's monthly Tag Cloud and get a lowered price.
The newest addition to the Shazam service is Shazam iD, a Java application that can be downloaded for free to mobile phones (though data charges apply), giving you more features and flexibility to discover and experience music. Shazam iD incorporates Shazam's mobile music recognition technology as a primary function, but enhances your experience by delivering a richer, more engaging one.
Once downloaded, the application sits on your cellphone's main menu and offers you one-click initiation utilising GPRS connectivity. You can 'iD' the music you are hearing and go on to access related information, including artist biographies and recommendations, and ultimately purchase associated products such as ringtones and albums.
Until this cool service will reach the US, you can still use the Shazam website and check out some examples of real-time mobile music tagging. Here!
