Is Microsoft going to buy the Blackberry brand?

There has been some pure speculation of late that with the stock market being in the free fall that it is, that Microsoft would make a play to buy the Canadian based RIM, the makers of Blackberry handsets. RIM, who's stock is selling at the $60 range at the moment, was fetching $148 a share just four months ago and is probably one of those undervalued companies some billionaire could make a fortune on if they decide to buy it on the cheap.

There's a rumor that Microsoft has a standing offer to buy RIM if the asking price ever drops to $50 a share.

Obviously I don't know if that's true but RIM would be a good match for Microsoft, who have been trying to make a bigger splash in the cell phone industry, but need a stronger product than Windows Mobile to add to their market share.
