Britain's got Talent: Paul Potts opera singer/cell phone salesman

For those of you who've never heard of Britain's got Talent; just know it's yet another Simon Cowell vehicle and I'm sure you can figure out the rest. But there are a few things that make Britain's got Talent different; it's being broadcast daily and it's open to any kind of act, unless of course you've seen the movie The Aristocrats.

Also differentiating it from Simon Cowell’s stateside day job; some of these contestants can actually sing. Paul Potts, this mild mannered cell phone salesman, comes out of the box dropping Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” and within two minutes shows more emotion than all the contestants combined on the last season of American Idol.

(Not hard… I know. Still this is a great performance.)

Wow!!!!!
This whole thing brought me to tears. God bless Paul and thank you for inspiring me.

PAUL POTTS AS A SINGER IS JUST INCREDIBLE AND I HAVE READ ALL OF THE BEAUTIFUL COMMENTS ABOUT PAUL BUT WHAT DID BOTHER ME WERE THE 'FEW' COMMENTS THAT WERE MADE BY SOME INDIVUDUALS ABOUT PAUL BEING A 'TRAINED SINGER'.
THESE PEOPLE ARE THE SAME TYPE OF PEOPLE WHO MAKE 'COMMENTS' ABOUT HOW
WHEN A PERSON GIVES 5 MILLION DOLLARS TO A CHARITY THESE JERKS THEN MAKE STUPID REMARKS AS TO WHY THEY DIDN'T GIVE 6 MILLION DOLLARS INSTEAD OF 5.....

Not professionally trained??? WHAT a GIFT!!! Too bad so few believed in him and so many bullied him. NOW, who's the looser??? Mr Potts must have an outstanding, wonderful wife to stand by him. This whole album is on my iPod nano and it is played every time that I am in my car.
My heart be still. Now the world believes in you, Mr. Potts. Nan Auman, U.S.A.

He was absolutely wonderful very gifted young man, blessings to him. I was emotional when I saw the video.

I have to admit that I have never cared for opera - But this has made me really open my ears to what a perfect voice is..

I saw the video, total impressed , He sung it so beautifully each song, I cried a couple of times I have the email of it saved, wonderful gift God has bestowed upon him. Much success and blessing upon him.

I have watched this over and over.....will save it forever....could he be Mario Lanza reincarnated??

I love classical music, but opera is definitely something I could live without. All the more astounding then, to hear Paul Potts, and to witness the effect he had on the judges and the audience -- and on myself. I could feel the tears starting to come. I've not been able to get this man's music out of my head.
He's an inspiration to us all. Everyone who carps and criticizes is missing the point entirely. To all such I say: get a life and do something with it.

I have heard Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma and I love this song. However Paul Potts version in this short clip is the first time made my eyes wet. Ah ...just simply awesome.

paul potts voice is second to none, his voice touches the chakra, his demeanor, humble gentle man. paul is not trained, he went on a course to italy paid by himself for three months, amatuer at bath opera house only, listen to his o holy night on christmas version, you will cry, pavorotti does not touch the soul as this man.remember the saying, once in a lifetime someone creeps upon us that changes the world, that someone is paul potts

I, too, am a 64 year old African American woman from California. I enjoy Blues, R/B and Country Western.

Paul Potts has increased my interest in opera. I enjoyed his voice; I loved his passion. For me, there was a lesson presented. The lesson is on how people are judged by their appearance. Paul Potts, appeared, not at all "outstanding". When he belted out his song............his being outstanding showed on the judges' and the audience's faces and in their thunderous applause, etc. Maybe we should take a lesson from what I consider the moral of this story. I tear up everytime I look and listen.

I am a 64 year old African American lady from Florida and I tivo'd Oprah today. I just watched it at 3:00 am my time and heard Paul sing. I am not an opera buff, I love R & B. But.....WOW! this guy brought tears to my eyes, his love of singing came thru my TV loud and clear. I have replayed it over and over. I wish him all the good things he deserves, God bless him and his family!

When is Paul coming to America. I am a full time missionary and when Paul sings it is like standing in the before the Thrown of God

O MY GOD!
WOW Paul POTTS!
"Somebody else already said it....."If Angels sing, this is what they sound like" !
I wish you the VERY BEST. You were WONDERFUL!
TOTALLY......"BLEW ME AWAY" !
BEST OF LUCK...Goooooo,all the way!

NO WORDS, can express my true emotions after hearing PAUL POTTS sing!
Truly blew me away! I have seen all the clips over and over and over.
I cannot get enough of paul. It was worth watching...JUST TO see Simon's Reaction! It totally blew the judges away, as ASimon said "I was not expecting that" !
I never liked opra before, but NOW I am a FAN of Paul's. What a voice and he is so humble. PERFECT winner of "Britin has Talent". NO ONE deserved to win more than he did! Here in the USA, I have seen him on Good Morning America, and he still gave me goosebumps with his singing. I LOVED the comment made by someone else....
"If angels sing, this is what they sound like" BEST of LUCK Paul Potts! I have already ordered your CD "ONE CHANCE" ! GREAT-GREAT JOB PAUL POTTS !

I was listening to the Ellen Degeneras show, and was so taken by his sound! I don't care how he got where he is, I'm just thankful he got there!! The next day I got his CD. I listen to him all the time. SO refreshing!!

One of the best opera singers I have heard in a very long time. Hope he makes it big, he deserves it. What a voice.

I loved hearing Paul and yes he does have a beautiful tone and beautiful simplicity in his attitude. I too am a singer and I have suffered a great deal trying to make my dream come true. I am the original voice in the movie Creepers (Phenomena in Italy) and my name has unjustly not been divulged.. Could someone tell me if I can participate on this show, and how? In the meantime, Paul keep up the good work. I sing opera, pop, jazz. musical.. but without a doubt opera is the most difficult. It takes great discipline, study, strenght and means nothing without "il cuore" (the heart) !

This event, Paul singing the way he does, his story, winning the competition, actually fulfilling his dream ... is so very inspiring. Most of us are taught that dreams are 'just dreams'; whereas in fact their true value becomes apparent when one tries to think of life without dreams.

I saw an advertisement for the Paul Potts opera CD on tv a couple nights ago. I originally saw his story on Good Morning America and when I saw the CD, I wasn't positive it was 'him.' I definitely must buy the CD. His voice is very moving.

He is awesome, I can't wait to see him live! He started a blog but has been a bit quiet lately, wonder whats going on? I found this site which is good to find out more about him: www.paulpottsopera.org

I was absolutly in awe when I heard his voice!, from the looks of his appearance, I thought this was a joke. Brovo Paul........if you win, please get your teeth fixed and move on to bigger and better stages!
You are the BOMB and keep up the work

I saw Paul's performance on German tv last night. Today I looked at him several times on internet. Every time I played the song my eyes got wet. He almost made me forget Caruso. I'm looking forward to his first CD.

I have just read that digusting statement by some one so ignorant and can only make himself heard by using the F word ect. what poor loser,, jealousy has to be there.opera has been around for hundreds of year and will contiue to be heard , crap put out by that idiot was last 10 years ..good luck Paul ,I am looking for his album........

This guy just blew me away. He shouldn't be a cell phone salesman.

So him today after so many people had seen him weeks ago. I would hope with a voice like he has that he has had training and hopes he has more, it can only get better. In my view he's better than any larger tennor from Italia

I am a great lover of opera and have listened to hundreds of singers. Paul has a lovely voice and it is obvious ( perhaps to the surprise of many) that he must have had training -nothing wrong with that, in fact to sing the type of music opera demands it is essential. Relatively few singers have brought tears to my eyes, Jussy Bjorling is one. Chaliapin in the role of Boris, another but what , I think, brought tears to my eyes when I heard Paul was his humility and simplicity Of course, being Welsh he has music in his soul, but he is not stupid, Puccini's "Nessum Dorma" is an incredible aria in it's own right. I wish him the greatest success possible. He's earned it.

I like Micheal Jackson more though.........

I am not all that crazy about opera butwhen I heard him sing, I had to listen to it again. He may be trained, but you could sense the emotion in his voice. Incredible!!!!
I hope he has the strength and stamina to pursue his dream. True genius doesn't come very often in this world.

Paul Potts' voice is beautiful and I can't seem to stop watching his contributions to "Britain's Got Talent" on YouTube. What a wonderful person with a voice from God.

I cannot top what has been written above, only agree with everyone. He gave us something we never knew we had, a love of Opera. I am only sorry that Pavaroti with all his love for Opera and money didn't help the guy out, when he studied in Italy.

I keep watching Paul over and over, just love Him and the reaction from the panel and the audience was to behold. I wish this kid the best Maureen O

I loved it, he is a great talent. How can we follow his progress throughout this contest? I want to hear more!

UNBELIVABLE!!!! A VOICE THAT TRULY SHOULD BE HEARD BY ALL THE WORLD. WHAT WONDERFUL TALENT HE HAS. I HOPE HE CONTINUES SO EVERYONE CAN SHARE IN THIS GREAT VOICE. I WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH FOR HIS MUSIC.

TRULY!!!! AMAZING VOICE, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF MUSIC YOU HAVE TO RECOGNIZE TRUE TALLENT LIKE THAT. I WAS MOVED, IMPRESSED AND AWE STRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF HE DOESN'T MAKE IT NO ONE DESERVES TO.

Al fogel, you are correct in everything that you say. I am from Bath and can confirm that Paul has appeared on our local TV news shows and has sung with Bath Opera, and he has been to Italy to learn his trade and no doubt has trained hard alongside professionals. But I think you are missing the point. He has done all of the things that you have cited because these are the playing fields of singers. (singing in the shower has its limitations) Rather than being paid for his singing he has paid to learn to sing.

The reason why Paul Potts blows your socks off is because rather than singing to live, he lives to sing, and boy oh boy what a difference that makes. I am no opera fan but put enough passion into anything and you can make it beautiful.

i know exactly what this chap is going through. i'm studying to be an opera singer in canada. Paul, you truly are an inspiration. i've been told i also have a real gift to be able to move people thru singing the way you do. i've only studied for a year, but have done many performances. my heart bursts for you career as well. hope to see you on stage one day!p.s. my day job is a tile contractor

I never liked opra till I heard this guy. He brought tears to my eyes. Forget the competition, this guy will be booked before the season is over.

Bravo! What an absolutely amazing voice . . . a true gift from God. I was completely moved and touched by his performance, not only did his voice give me goosebumps but it brought me to tears. Paul is perfection!! Good luck sir, may you go all the way to the top.

PAUL POTTS, you're absolutely a 'Breath of Fresh Air" & I wish you the very best as your pursue your life long dream. You have a God given spirit & voice for the world to enjoy. Your humble spirit and magnificent voice has & will continue to touch the hearts of millions. We're all looking forward to the CD's you'll be recording! Abundant blessings.

I'm not a fan of opera but,I may hear more because of it. He just may had of open new doors for new ears....this was OUTSTANDING!

It is seldom that singing elicits such a response from people, spine tingling, tear jerking.
and awe. I think paul potts is great and his story an inspiration. Great show

I am a 42 year old man and today (18th June) I was cruising the website of a news outlet here in Melbourne, Australia. I saw a heading, "incredible performance on British talent show" and thought I'd check it out. The performance I saw by Paul made my heart soar and brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't believe how beautiful his voice and his performance was! I've watched all three of his performances on YouTube and have teared up everytime. I've told all of my friends and family about Paul and they've all been moved to tears too and to say, WOW! I can't wait to hear more of this wonderful man!

WOW!
Paul, you made me swallow my adams apple a number of times and brought tears to my eyes.congratulations.WOW!

WOW!!!!!

A man of unconditional love, who will touch the hearts of millions and be blessed with eternal humility.

Greeting From America.
Paul Potts is inspiring and we love him because he represents "normal" folks like us.

Long live the Queen, Got bless America.

"been under the tutalege of Pavorotti."

He performed for Pavarotti in a Master Class. Never said he was taught by him. People forget to say that he was LEFT OUT of opera circles when he fell ill.

Alot of people are forgetting the life he has been through.

To think Paul Potts is a fraud and to accuse him of that IS just the same BULLYING that he suffered as a kid.

GIVE THE GUY A FAIR GO.

This man has touched so many people across the world including me (and im a heavy metal guitarist). Im facinated by this mans voice and humble unassuming nature. He is a pure gem.

It doesn't matter if anyone has been professionally trained or not. If the public is unaware of their talent, then we all lose. I am not a fan of opera, but this man blew me away. I am thankful that Good Morning America played this clip to expose his talent to millions. I wish him the best and hope for a long and fruitful career. I will certainly buy any CD he puts out. Paul, you are awesome! Thank you!

Thanks, Bill (#28) for correcting Dave (#17) in his sour-grapes diatribe berating Mr. Potts as a con who has defrauded the public. I didn't hear any false representations with respect to his background, training, or professional standing. If, as Dave suggests, he's a conniving professional passing himself off as a "poor, undiscovered guy", then he has taken his ruse to the extreme by keeping his day job. Mr. Potts' first appearance was a galvanizing, emotional experience for countless people, some of whom were in desperate need of a real-life fairy tale. I am grateful for the lift it gave me. Wish you could be, too, Dave. Perhaps if you had a dream of your own to pursue, it would afford you some of the joy the anassuming Mr. Potts is reaping now. For most of us, it is immenssely gratifying to see the meek inherit the earth!

fantastic , amazing , uk got a tenor .... this guy gonna a win it by miles......
