BlackBerry Curve: Pearl + QWERTY

Photo thanks to Tech Digest

blackberry_curve.jpgRIM just announced the new BlackBerry Curve model, which brings to mind the old Passover Seder question, "What makes this Blackberry different from all other BlackBerrys?"

In short, a Blackberry Curve is basically a BlackBerry Pearlwith the PC familiar QWERTY keyboard layout added to the mix. Also new, is included Roxio Media Manage software which among other things can create and tag MP3s and Roxio Photosuite 9 which allows you to edit pictures on your cell phone. Features held over from previous BlackBerry models include the trackball; a 2-megapixel camera with 5X zoom and flash; a full-screen viewfinder; USB; BlackBerry Messenger; and Bluetooth.

64MB flash memory is included, with the MicroSD card able to handle up to 2GB, though that will double when Blackberry releases 4GB cards. Push e-mail and all other traditional BlackBerry business applications are supported. Also included is Speakerphone, a 3.5mm headset jack, and the capability for up to 4 hours of talk time.

Not included? GPS.

The smallest and lightest Blackberry to date, the Curve seems like an even more credible attempt than the Pearl by RIM to branch into mass market handsets, and will be available exclusively through AT&T Cingular for an estimated price of about $200 starting sometime his spring.

Comments

The Curve is not the smallest Blackberry. It's the smallest Blackberry with a QWERTY keyboard. The Pearl is still the smallest Blackberry.
