Even before the official results come back later tonight I’m ready to declare your 2007 American Idol winner- Melinda Doolittle. That right; what’s wrong with a little denial; with all its scenic Egyptian landscape and exotic real life crocodiles. Due to a glitch in the American Idol voting system- they actually count the votes rather than basing it on merit the best singer won’t be the last standing; but maybe it in the year of Sanjaya that’s what we should have expected.

As for the best of what’s left, trying to compare Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks is like comparing apples and oranges… one is a better performer one is a better singer, so this came down to the final song; which made the competition feel a little bit rigged.

Blake Lewis actually started out strong on "This Is My Now” but once the chorus kicked in you could see he was embarrassed to be singing this and rightly so. No one would expect Eminem to tackle Barbra Streisand, why did they make Blake sing this?

On the other hand, this was exactly the sort of ballad Jordin has been living on all season long. Though came out a little shaky, by the end of the song she was belting out notes with the kind of range and force that Blake just isn’t capable of and the look on her face it all. She’s the new prom queen; perhaps even literally (she’s 17- but you got that memo).

A bittersweet ending to an up and down season; it’s not that Jordin Sparks is bad, it’s just that Melinda Doolittle was a lot better.
